French Femtech Holds Strong and Continues to Gain Momentum
For the fourth consecutive year, Femtech France, the leading European organisation supporting innovators in women's health, and Wavestone, the global consulting firm specializing in business transformation, have combined their expertise to publish the annual French Femtech Landscape Report. Today, this report serves as the benchmark for tracking the evolution of the women's health innovation ecosystem in France, providing a comprehensive snapshot of its commercial and financial performance each year.
"France is not only the European country with the largest number of Femtech startups; it is also the first country in the European Union to establish an investment fund dedicated to women's health innovation. European leadership is within reach," says Delphine Moulu, Co-founder and Managing Director of Femtech France.
A Sector That Continues to Mature
With 200 active startups as of April 30, 2026, compared with 170 a year earlier, the French Femtech ecosystem continues its strong growth trajectory. The market is becoming increasingly mature: the average funding round has reached €3 million, nearly one quarter of startups (23%) have already achieved profitability, and 38% report stable revenues.
These figures reflect a sector that is steadily reaching maturity. Backed by strong commercial traction and increasingly robust business models, Femtech startups are now firmly established within the French healthcare innovation landscape.
This growing maturity is also reflected in the sector's financial attractiveness: half of all funding raised by French Femtech startups now comes from international investors, demonstrating that the ecosystem's influence extends well beyond France's borders.
Thriving Despite an Uncertain National and Global Context
The year 2025 was marked by political instability in France and a highly uncertain geopolitical environment. This climate of uncertainty affected businesses across all sectors, and Femtech was no exception.
At the same time, shifting geopolitical dynamics and evolving international alliances are reshaping the industry's global landscape. In 2025, for example, the Embassy of Canada launched an international expansion program for Canadian Femtech startups. While the United States might once have been the natural destination for such an initiative, Canadian startups instead chose France and the United Kingdom as their primary expansion markets.
This represents a strong signal of the growing credibility and international recognition of the French Femtech ecosystem.
A Highly Optimistic Outlook for 2026
Rather than being discouraged by this challenging environment, French Femtech startups are entering 2026 with confidence.
79% plan to recruit during the year, reflecting sustained growth ambitions.
77% describe themselves as optimistic—or even very optimistic—about the future of their business.
These ambitions are also reflected in the increasing diversity of talent being sought. Alongside medical expertise, startups are now actively recruiting professionals with technology, regulatory, and commercial skills.
This momentum is further reinforced by growing institutional recognition. Among the startups surveyed, 7 are now reimbursed by the French National Health Insurance (Assurance Maladie), paving the way for significant scaling opportunities.
In an economic climate generally characterized by caution, this level of confidence sets Femtech apart as one of the most resilient sectors within healthcare innovation.
"By addressing a long-standing blind spot in healthcare, Femtech is accelerating the recognition of women's health, now with the support of the French National Health Insurance system and complementary health insurers," concludes Laurence Al Neimi, Insurance Expert at Wavestone.
